Can You Drink G Fuel Cans Every Day? (Honest Review)

Energy drinks are said to be a good alternative for coffee to give you the boost you need to go through the day’s work.

Like other brands, the G Fuel can is a great way to start off your day. It has many flavors to choose from and even has a powder formula if you want to blend it with ice or a favorite juice drink.

But unlike its powder formula, is it safe to drink G Fuel can every day?

Ye olde’ 16 fl.oz can of G Fuel

The short answer is yes. According to G Fuel, the maximum daily dosage they recommend is 3 servings. You can begin by having 1 serving a day to get a feel of the drink itself, and then you can increase depending on how much energy you need.

To better understand what G Fuel can is, let’s start off with its nutrition facts.

Here’s a table summarizing the nutrition facts found in a G Fuel can.

Nutrient Amount per Serving (16 fl. oz)
Calories 0
Total Carbohydrates0g
Sugar0g
Sodium70mg
Protein 0g
Potassium85mg (2%)
Niacin (Vitamin B3)4mg (25%)
Vitamin B60.4mg (25%)
Vitamin B120.6mcg (25%)
Vitamin C45mg (50%)
Caffeine 300mg

As you can see, the label is pretty straightforward. It tells you exactly how much of everything you can find in a G Fuel can. This is a good reference for making an informed decision about a certain product or brand.

What do the percentages next to them mean, though?

Percent daily value is the amount of nutrient in a serving of food contributes to a daily diet. Daily value can be expressed in grams, milligrams, or micrograms.

However, it’s worth noting that these are calculated on the assumption that you follow a 2000 calorie diet. If your diet requires more or less than that amount, then it’ll be a little harder to figure out if the food or drink is right for you.

How Many Calories are in a G Fuel Can?

A G Fuel can has zero calories.

All foods have little amounts of calories, the only exception to this is water. That means no food is truly calorie-free. If anything, the label just means the product gives you less than 5 calories on consumption.

Based on this, it’s also safe to assume that negative calorie foods are also a myth. It’s not that you don’t get any calories from eating cucumbers, you just spend more energy (calories) digesting it.

See, calories are a measure of the energy your body derives from the food and drinks you take throughout the day. They’re associated with dieting and weight gain since whatever you don’t burn by the end of the day ends up getting stored as fat in your body.

How much can you have without gaining weight then? In general, the recommended calorie intake per day is 2000 for women and 2500 for men.

But in practice, it depends on a lot of things like your lifestyle, age, and body size. So you’ll have to consult your doctor or dietician to be sure.

Having less than 5 calories per serving makes the G Fuel cans a solid choice for people looking to watch their weight.

How Much Sugar is in a G Fuel Can?

G Fuel Cans have no sugar content, making it a sugar-free energy drink.

Instead, G Fuel cans get their sweetness from sugar substitutes like Sucralose (Splenda) and Acesulfame Potassium (Ace-K).

These sugar substitutes are more specifically called artificial sweeteners. They’re often used in both food formulas and home recipes to give flavor to sugar-free products.

Since they also have few calories (enough to be considered calorie-free), they’re popular both with people who can’t eat sugar and people who want to lose weight.

As of the writing, both sucralose and Ace-K are considered safe to consume as per the FDA standards.

Other sugar substitutes you might find in your food and drink are:

  • Sugar Alcohols
  • Fruit juices
  • Honey
  • Maple syrup

How Much Caffeine is in a G Fuel Can?

Caffeine (coffee)

Each can of G Fuel has 300mg of caffeine.

A big number, right?. A product with 300mg of caffeine per serving is considered highly caffeinated and should be consumed in moderation. Going further than that will put you at risk of developing health problems as a result.

According to the FDA, the recommended daily caffeine limit for adults is 400mg. Any more than that, and you may end up with a caffeine overdose.

As you might have noticed, 300mg is 75% of your daily limit.

The extra 100mg isn’t much wiggle room either. 100mg might be enough for an extra cup of coffee, but you have to remember that there are many other sources of caffeine outside energy drinks and coffee.

Caffeine can also be found in some drinks such as:

  • Tea
  • Chocolate
  • Supplements
  • Soft drinks

So if you’re also prone to consuming lots of any of these (and don’t want to give any of it up), 300mg of caffeine might be too much for you.

And that’s just if you can process that 300mg. If you’re sensitive to caffeine, then even amounts below that might be overkill. It might be advisable to drink only 1 or half a serving of G Fuel a day to avoid severe side effects.

G Fuel Can Ingredients

Here’s a list of what you can find in a can of G Fuel:

  • Carbonated Water
  • Natural Flavors
  • Artificial Flavors
  • Sodium Gluconate
  • Malic Acid
  • Caffeine
  • Potassium Beta-Hydroxybutyrate
  • Maltodextrin
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin B3
  • Vitamin B6
  • Vitamin B12
  • L-Tyrosine
  • Sucralose
  • Potassium Citrate
  • Citric Acid
  • Acesulfame Potassium
  • Green Coffee Bean Extract
  • Green Tea Extract
  • Turmeric Extract
  • Tart Cherry
  • Blueberry
  • Broccoli
  • Kale
  • L-Theanine
  • Steviol Glycosides

In summary, G Fuel is a carbonated drink that contains lots of vitamins, caffeine, flavoring, and antioxidants.

The antioxidants slow the damage of your body cells. They do this by hindering oxidation reactions and the free radicals that come from that.

How important are antioxidants in our body?

Having too many free radicals in your body is associated with diseases like cancer and diabetes.

Besides that, the vitamins (especially Vitamins B6 and B12) are normal ingredients in energy drinks. They’re said to aid metabolism and give you energy boosts.

And since they’re water-soluble, any excess you have in your body is released in your urine. So there’s no need to worry about overdosing on them.

How Long Does a G Fuel Can Last?

According to the official site, a serving of G Fuel kicks in 10-15 minutes after consumption and lasts for 4-6 hours.

This can be attributed to the caffeine content, since 10-15 minutes is also the amount of time caffeine takes to produce noticeable effects. From there, it slowly works towards its half-life then leaves your bloodstream through your urine.

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) says that caffeine has an average half-life of 5 hours. A half-life refers to the amount of time it takes for your bloodstream to have only half of the amount of caffeine you started with.

That means if you drink a can of G Fuel at 4pm, you might feel it at 4:10. Then at 9pm, you’ll have 150mg of the 300mg you originally drank. In the end, you’ll need to wait till 2am for all the caffeine G Fuel gave you to get out of your system.

Of course, this won’t be the case for everyone who downs a can of G Fuel, or even coffee. How exactly this will work for you depends a lot on how tolerant your body is of caffeine.

For a more comprehensive breakdown, go ahead and CaffeineMan’s video. Here, he explains the half-life of caffeine and the factors that affect it. He also explains caffeine tolerance and caffeine sensitivity in detail.

In addition, caffeine tolerance and the like is affected by many factors. These vary from your age, metabolism, lifestyle, and even family history of caffeine sensitivity.

After that, he goes on to talk about what this means for people who drink energy drinks. Basically, despite having many ingredients in common, different formulas have different ingredients that affect everyone differently.

Is G Fuel Can Safe To Drink?

People who are sensitive to caffeine, have health problems, are minors, or pregnant women should avoid G Fuel and caffeine in general.

People who are sensitive to caffeine don’t need much of an explanation. Being caffeine sensitive means their bodies are more vulnerable to the side effects. Even just a tiny bit of caffeine can make them jittery, so a high caffeine drink like a G Fuel can really isn’t the best idea.

Pregnant women might still be able to drink a small amount of caffeine, but most doctors would recommend keeping it at 200mg or below. Even though caffeine could help boost awareness and help with headaches, there are still a lot of risks to continuing to consume it during pregnancy.

The risks involved in drinking caffeine during pregnancy include:

  • Slower metabolism
  • Caffeine entering the baby’s bloodstream through the placenta
  • High blood pressure
  • Increased anxiety
  • Dizziness
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea

There’s also evidence that caffeine during pregnancy could be linked to things like lower birth weight and higher risk of miscarriage. However, the studies show mixed results and can’t confirm anything as of the writing.

Children and adolescents are more sensitive to the side effects of caffeine than adults. They also need more sleep to support their still-growing bodies, so it’s recommended that parents limit their intake as much as possible.

As far as the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is concerned, minors should consume no more than 100mg of caffeine a day.

If they follow that, then they should be safe from the consequences of drinking too much caffeine. Especially insomnia, which can severely hinder their performance in school.

Final Thoughts

G Fuel Can multiple flavors
So how many of these can you actually have a day?

You can drink G Fuel cans every day. It has 300mg of caffeine, a negligible amount of calories, and no sugar. Although due to its high caffeine content, I definitely wouldn’t recommend having more than one can a day.

G Fuel said it themselves that you’re allowed to have 3 servings a day, provided that you also drink a lot of water to flush it all out.

G Fuel cans are similar to any other energy drink. They need the same amount of time to kick in (10 minutes) for the same reason as any other brand (caffeine).

Of course, if you happen to be pregnant, a minor, or just generally sensitive to caffeine, I don’t really recommend downing a can of G Fuel every day due the complications that may arise from it.

This is because even if you’re not totally incapable of processing caffeine. G Fuel’s 300mg worth is still way above the norm, so it’s definitely a lot better to be safe than sorry when it comes to caffeinated beverages.

Personally, I suggest only drinking canned G Fuel when you really need the caffeine boost. Otherwise, you should probably grab a lighter energy drink, with G Fuel Powder being a great alternative at only half the caffeine content per serving.
