G Fuel Powder Caffeine Content

Tea being poured into a cup of coffee.
Caffeine works no matter where you get it from, tea included

According to G Fuel’s official site, the average serving of G Fuel powder has 140mg of caffeine in it. This seems lower in caffeine content than brands like Red Bull and NOS Energy, both having around 160mg of caffeine per 16 fl. oz can.

Red Bull and NOS have an average of 10mg of caffeine per 1 fl. oz, G Fuel Powder has 11.6mg of caffeine per 1 fl. oz. Some flavors even have 12.5 mg of caffeine per 1 fl. oz because their servings have 150mg of caffeine!

So yes, most G Fuel flavors have higher than average caffeine content.

You also have the G Fuel Hydration which is caffeine-free, a perfect substitute for whenever you’re craving coffee or caffeine at night.

Remember that caffeine is a stimulant. A stimulant is a kind of drug that promotes alertness. This means that when you drink a cup of coffee or energy drink, you begin to feel more awake and less tired throughout the day.

Caffeine works by blocking adenosine, a hormone that promotes sleepiness. This results in caffeine being good at waking you up and keeping your mood and energy at good levels.

However, that also means taking too much caffeine will disrupt your body clock (circadian rhythm) and cause sleep deprivation.

You might also experience the following from too much caffeine:

  • Diarrhea
  • Profuse Sweating
  • Palpitations (Increased heart rate)
  • Difficulty Breathing
  • Muscle Tremors

G Fuel Powder Hydration

G Fuel Powder Hydration is the caffeine-free alternative to the regular G Fuel Powder. It’s a thirst-quenching product that will replenish your essential minerals through electrolytes while you go about your daily tasks.

G Fuel Energy is meant to help you keep your focus and cognitive functions by preventing dehydration.

How big of a deal is this?

For context, you can start losing functions as soon as you’ve lost 2% of your total body weight in water.

Amazon notes that like the regular energy products, G Fuel Hydration is sugar-free. Its sweet flavor comes from the sucralose ingredient instead of the high fructose corn syrup other energy drinks use.

So yes, both G Fuel Powder and G Fuel Powder Hydration are safe for consumption specifically for diabetics and those who want to lessen their daily sugar intake.

How does G Fuel provide energy?

Similar to the powder formula, G Fuel Hydration has L-Tyrosine, Taurine, L-Citrulline Malate, increasing your focus and energy without needing sugar or caffeine.

L-Tyrosine (or just Tyrosine) is a non-essential amino acid linked to focus and mental ability. Its role in the body is that helps the body produce thyroid hormones.

Those affect nearly every part of your body since they’re tied to weight gain and body temperature. If you’re a woman, they’re responsible for regulating the menstrual cycle too.

Most people don’t need to take tyrosine supplements since the body can produce and regulate it normally. Not getting it from food? You body can make more? Got too much? It’ll be broken down and gotten rid of, no problem.

Tyrosine is also connected to the production of neurotransmitters that help nerves communicate.

Examples of neurotransmitters that are produced with tyrosine include:

  • Epinephrine – Also known as adrenaline. It gets released into your bloodstream when you go into fight or flight mode to make your heart beat faster and increase blood sugar levels.
  • NorepinephrineA stress hormone that’s released into your bloodstream when you’re stressed. Like adrenaline, it also increases your heart rate, blood sugar level, and blood flow to your muscles.
  • Dopamine – A chemical messenger that’s linked to feelings of pleasure and your ability to focus on tasks.

L-Citrulline-Malate is a non-essential amino acid that helps your body get rid of ammonia. It’s also said to help with muscle building and increasing blood flow.

Once it’s consumed, some of it gets converted to arginine, another amino acid. After that, the arginine is turned into nitric oxide, which widens arteries and veins to increase blood flow.

Because of these effects, citrulline is considered important to keeping and increasing muscle mass.

Taurine is both an amino acid naturally produced by the body and found in food. Though it’s mostly mentioned when talking about energy drinks, it’s actually significantly important to a person’s health.

Its also helps in the different functions of the body organs which include:

  • Keeping calcium levels within the cells balanced
  • Producing bile salts
  • Balancing electrolytes
  • Supporting the nervous system
  • Promoting a healthy metabolism

Altogether, Taurine, Citrulline, and Tyrosine give you the energy boost you want by making the physical reactions you need for it possible.

Is G Fuel Powder Healthy?

G Fuel Hydration is a good source of energy especially for those who are conscious about their health, considering that it has a lower amount of preservatives compared to other energy drinks.

However, I believe that it’s important to consider the amount of sugar and caffeine when deciding whether G Fuel Energy is as healthy as people say it is.

G Fuel Warning Label

In November 2017, Gamma Labs faced a lawsuit over failing to include in their labels a warning sign about the alleged traces of lead in each tub.

This went against California’s health and safety code, causing the Environmental Research Center to act against them,

During the case, G Fuel Energy was accused of having more lead than normal. This became a problem because lead is known to cause cancer, birth defects, and other kinds of reproductive harm in its consumers.

The lawsuit was later settled in April 2018, when around 18 G Fuel Energy supplements were found to have more lead than its competitors. Aside from paying damages, Gamma Labs were also compelled to follow other regulatory procedures, which includes selling G Fuel only when there appears a warning sign on the drink.

How much Taurine is in G Fuel?

Gamma Labs had also gone under criticism for not disclosing how much taurine is in G Fuel Energy. In the end, the CEO, Clifford Morgan replied that “there is nothing wrong with taurine, especially in small amounts.”

Is G Fuel good for weight loss?

When included in a balanced diet, G Fuel may aid in weight reduction. It contains caffeine, which helps reduce cravings, and is made up of other ingredients that may aid weight reduction.

People often believe that missing meals and replacing them with energy drinks would help them reach their calorie deficit goals, but this is not the case. Over time, drinking two or more energy drinks daily will cause you to consume more calories than you need, which can contribute to weight gain.

How long does it take for Game Fuel to kick in?

The effects of a single serving of G FUEL Energy Formula won’t be felt for at least ten to fifteen minutes after consumption. This boost in vitality and concentration may persist for as long as four to six hours.

G Fuel’s trademark blend of caffeine and sugar gives you a substantial energy boost. If you can get over the lower caffeine and sugar level, Game Fuel is an excellent energy drink for those with moderate caffeine tolerances.

G Fuel Powder Flavors

If you love drinks with lots of flavors, G Fuel might just be what you’re looking for.

Dukaja’s review of some of the can flavors

For a quick preview of what G Fuel flavors are like, watch Dukaja’s video on the few of the flavors from both the original powder formula and the new can version.

Aside from getting a taste of each flavor, he also compares the can version with its original formula. Sure enough, he has preferenced but hey, it’s pretty clear that he’s having fun with the new G Fuel drinks.

According to the official site, G Fuel has 35 unique flavors listed for its caffeinated powder variety, and 4 from the caffeine-free Hydration. So you can be sure that there will always be something for everybody.

Here’s a list of the Hydration flavors you can try out yourself:

  • FaZeberry
  • Blue Rocket Pop
  • Dragon Fruit
  • Strawberry Lemonade

G Fuel, in partnership with streamers, Esports gamers and Youtube personalities have created flavors such as:

  • Battle Juice (FaZe clan, pineapple)
  • Sour Pixel Potion (Twitch, sour grape)
  • PewDiePie (Pewdiepie, lingonberry)

They originally have 4 flavors and later added 6 more for variety.

Flavors featured in the video are:

  • Bahama Mama
  • Faze Ragin’ Gummyfish
  • Tropical Rain
  • Sour Blue Chug Rug
  • Nemesis Tea Flavor
  • Black on Blackberry

I think it’s safe to assume that even if you do get unlucky and none of the flavors is for you, you can at least recommend some of them to your friends.

Get a chance to get them on sale when you visit the official G Fuel website.

What are Other Alternatives to Energy Drinks?

G Fuel Powder is a healthy alternative to popular brands like Rockstar and Monster, but it’s not perfect. It’s natural to be wondering what the alternatives are to G Fuel and the like. They’re great they can be too much for an average person.

As always, here are some good alternatives that you can try whenever you need an extra boost to start off your day.

The best part is that since these are natural, you won’t have to worry about taking in too much this and that. You can make it at home yourself within minutes!

Green Juice and Smoothies

Spinach, parsley, and kale are some of the common ingredients to a green and healthy smoothie. Some might not like it at first but it offers tons of health benefits that can do magic in your body.

But the thing about them is that they’re rich in B vitamins, similar to what you can find in the energy drink formulas.

These sources of vitamin B can help improve your metabolism just as well. That means consuming them through green juices and smoothies can give you as much energy as the G Fuel and other energy drink offer.

Green Tea

This is one of my personal favorites. Green tea has a small amount of caffeine and offers good benefits for your body. It could be a good substitute to your cup of coffee and is also said to clear one’s mind.

Protein Shakes

Believe it or not, protein can also help you reach peak energy. You might need to mix a few other things like fruit and wheat for flavor.

Water

It’s important that you drink enough water everyday to prevent dehydration. Many forget that our body is composed of 70% water, and we need to replenish it as much as we can. Taking 8 to 10 glasses a day can avoid the feeling of fatigue and improve metabolism too.

Conclusion

G Fuel Sour Cherry can
I’ve been told the can tastes better. Hmmm….

G Fuel Powder definitely works. If none of the ingredients or controversies bothers you, then I definitely would recommend buying it and trying out their different flavors.

Since it has no sugar, I believe it’s also among the healthier options for energy drinks. It has all other ingredients that give energy drinks their power so don’t worry about G Fuel being sugar-free meaning it gives less.

This goes double for the G Fuel Hydration formula, since the lack of caffeine means you don’t have to worry about caffeine overdose either.

Be careful not to get carried away by it being less in caffeine and sugar. There are other things that you should also be wary of (like drinks containing too much taurine, as the CEO himself expressed).
