Extra Joss Energy Drink Review (Detailed)

Extra Joss is one of the most popular energy drinks in powdered form. Its convenient sachet packaging is what attracts most consumers in the market, including me.

Since the first day that I’ve tried it, Extra Joss remains one of my top choices when I’ll need to travel light and compact. I would rate the drink a good 7.5 out of 10 because of its 50 mg caffeine which is just right up my alley.

Additionally, this powdered drink has no extra sugar and no calories to boot! What it does have is ginseng extract and royal jelly which sparked my interest.

Let’s put this energy supplement to the trial of fire and see how much it returned unscathed!

The Caffeine Content In Extra Joss

Each 4.6 gram serving of Extra Joss contains 50 mg of caffeine. This is not much compared to other brands in the market but is enough to give you a brief power-up.

Caffeine is involved in improving your physical and mental performance. It wakes your body up by blocking off the adenosine receptors responsible for feelings of fatigue.

Here’s a quick video on how caffeine works in the body:

How Does Caffeine Keep Us Awake?

Since caffeine has a direct effect on the hormones and the brain, I find it essential to keep my limit to the most minimum I can take. This ranges from 50 to 100 milligrams of caffeine.

Personally, I think this amount is more than enough to keep me going even on fast-paced days. However, you and I are different people, so you may need to increase or decrease this.

As a set health measure, the FDA suggests a 400 mg daily caffeine limit. This can serve as your reference as you explore just how much caffeine you can take.

Take note that you shouldn’t cross over this threshold because you may experience caffeine toxicity. Overconsumption of caffeine can lead to health problems such as:

If you’re looking for other energy drinks with low caffeine content, check the list that I made.

Sugar Content In Extra Joss Energy Drink

Unlike most classic energy drinks available on the market, Extra Joss does not contain any sugar.

This is a plus point looking at the AHA recommended daily sugar consumption of 25g for women and 36g for men. This energy drink being no sugar is enough to attract different markets, such as those on a diet.

Extra Joss helps you avoid sugar addiction and sugar crashes. Due to the non-existent sugar content, you’ll have a lesser risk of consuming too much sweet which may cause the following health problems:

Artificial Sweeteners In Extra Joss

In Extra Joss, artificial sweeteners like aspartame and acesulfame potassium are used to replace sugar.

Artificial sweeteners are a lot sweeter than sugar. The health authorities have however approved them for general use and are considered safe for use by both diabetics and non-diabetics.

Since then, they have been a constant companion for a variety of commercial products.

Extra Joss contains artificial sweeteners

Ace K is a nutritional supplement that has 200 times more sweetness than sugar with a bitter aftertaste. Although it is several times more potent than sugar, it’s still used because of its non-calorie properties.

As with Ace K, Aspartame is 200 times sweeter than sugar. Little bits of this substance go a long way which is why it is commonly used as an additive.

These artificial sweeteners enable people to consume sweet products without getting guilty about their intake. However, certain downsides still exist.

For instance, studies show that too many artificial sweeteners are not actually good for you. Overconsumption can yield weight gain or even brain tumors in extreme cases.

Ginseng Extract In Extra Joss

In Extra Joss there is a ginseng extract amounting to 35 mg per sachet. This root is commonly used in Chinese culture due to its therapeutic properties.

Studies have identified several health benefits that are associated with ginseng:

  • Sharper brain function
  • Anti-inflammatory effects
  • Treatment of erectile dysfunction
  • Flu prevention
  • Lowering blood sugar

On the other hand, here are some adverse effects of ginseng extract. Note that you’ll only experience this if you consume too much:

  • sleep problems
  • digestive problems
  • changes to blood pressure and blood sugar
  • diarrhea
  • rapid heartbeat
  • severe skin reaction

Benefits Of Extra Joss

If you can have a moderate consumption of Extra Joss, it‘ll surely bring you several benefits including:

  • Boosts your energy
  • Makes you feel refreshed
  • Improves physical performance
  • Improves brain function
  • Reduces tiredness

Flavors Of Extra Joss

Compared to other extensive flavors in the market, Extra Joss only has three:

  • Extra Joss Original
  • Extra Joss Rasa Mangga (Mango)
  • Extra Joss Rasa Anggur (Grapes)

If you ask me which one’s the best choice among these variants, you’d hear no hesitation from my answer. Without a doubt, I’d choose to drink Rasa Mangga any time of the day.

Ever since before, I’ve always had a soft spot for tropical fruits. Mangoes are a definite weakness, and Extra Joss successfully captured the flavors of mango without compromising on its quality!

I like to make my drink extra chilled, but I learned from experience that Extra Joss don’t dissolve well with cold water from the get-go. As such, I’ve made a little tweak in my recipe by first blending the packet in hot water.

Then I pour in some ice and voila! I get the refreshing mango drink with extra energy to boot.

If you’re not into mangoes, you can go for the Original variant. It’s your daily lemon staple, just more packed with a sweet, citrusy flavor.

Is Extra Joss Bad For You?

You won’t be harmed by it. In fact, you can boost your brain performance and increase your energy with 50mg of caffeine.

The B-vitamins in Extra Joss is good for your body since it is sugar-free. To avoid adverse effects, always limit your consumption to a few times a week at most.

If you’re diabetic, you can still drink Extra Joss as it is sugar-free. However, if you’re phenylketonuric, then you’ll need to watch out because its aspartame content can cause some problems.

Can You Drink Extra Joss Every Day?

Extra Joss can be consumed every day.

If you drink Extra Joss every day, there’s no problem since it has a moderate amount of caffeine as compared to other energy drinks.

Personally, I am open to drinking Extra Joss every day. It fits my daily caffeine consumption and it’s even sugar-free as a bonus!

A workout with Extra Joss also enhances your senses, strengthens your muscles, and enhances the power of your body. As a pre-workout energy drink, it also helps decrease body fatigue and gives you the energy to do your sets with ease.

Furthermore, you can have a boost whenever you want, as Extra Joss comes in a convenient packet.

Conclusion

During my experience, I was able to complete all my daily tasks without feeling any crashes. This itself is a great achievement as I love to get the boost without the necessary backfires.

As far as flavor goes, the taste is good which is not overpowering. Additionally, it doesn’t make you feel as if you are galloping heaps of sugar.

The price is also very reasonable with each pack containing twelve sachets. Each packet box is worth $4 only. If you’re looking for something effective but less pricey, you can never go wrong with Extra Joss.

The caffeine in this drink is only 50mg, yet you’ll be able to stay awake and active for up to 6 hours after drinking it. The only thing that is not so good about this product is that there is only a limited selection of flavors.

Overall, though, I prefer Extra Joss and I give it a good 7.5 out of 10.
