G Fuel Powder Caffeine and Ingredients (Detailed)

G Fuel is known for being healthier than your average sugar-filled energy drink, but how did that happen?

G Fuel Tub
What’s exactly in this thing?

Short answer: It has zero sugar and only 140g to 150g of caffeine per serving, along with a handful of other ingredients that might potentially benefit your overall energy drink experience, whether it be work or gaming.

Several analyses of the energy drink have concluded that it’s one of the better options for people looking for a healthier substitute.

Energy drink formulas are complicated and are loaded with their own benefits, not to mention its side effects. So if you really want to stay healthy, it’s important to be aware of the ingredients in it.

G Fuel Powder Ingredients

G Fuel’s label divides its important ingredients into three groups: Energy Complex, Focus Complex, and Antioxidant complex.

These groups represent exactly what the names imply.

The Energy Complex represents the ingredients that give your body the rush you know G Fuel for.

The Focus Complex are the ingredients that improve your focus.

And the Antioxidant complex are the ingredients that lessen the cell damage your body endures.

After that, there’s the miscellaneous ingredients. These are the preservatives, food colorings, and artificial sweeteners G Fuel’s formula uses.

Still, it’s worth noting that a lot of the ingredients in the miscellaneous section have multiple roles. For example, citric acid is both a preservative and an antioxidant.

G Fuel Powder Caffeine Content

Coffee beans
Coffee, the world’s most abundant source of caffeine.

G Fuel Powder contains 140mg to 150mg of caffeine per serving. It varies between flavors so make sure to check how much is in the one you’re holding before you buy it!

Despite what the numbers look like, that much caffeine is fine for an energy drink. For comparison, NOS has 160mg per 16 fl.oz can and Red Bull has the same average amount.

Finally, the recommended caffeine limit for adults per day is 400mg. That’s enough for two servings of G Fuel if you don’t consume any other caffeine products at the same time.

G Fuel Powder Energy Complex

As mentioned, the Energy Complex in G Fuel Powder represents the ingredients that give you energy. These primarily work by enhancing metabolism so your body can release what it gets from food and has stored as fat faster.

The ingredients in this list are:

  • Taurine
  • Citrulline
  • Glucuronolactone
  • Velvet bean extract

Taurine in G Fuel Powder

Taurine is an amino acid that serves many functions in your body. Although your body can produce taurine on its own, it can also be taken as a supplement to prevent or treat diseases. In energy drinks, the taurine that gets used in the formula is synthesized.

In the body, you can find it most concentrated in your eyes, brain, and muscles.

What does it do? Believe it or not, the taurine in your body does a lot.

Taurine’s roles in the human body are:

  • Maintaining electrolyte balance
  • Maintaining hydration
  • Regulating cellular calcium levels
  • Supporting central nervous system and eye functions
  • Regulating the immune system
  • Regulating how antioxidants affect the body

If ever the doctor tells you to get more taurine, you always supply that by eating fish, meat, and dairy products.

L-Citrulline Malate in G Fuel Powder

Citrulline is like taurine in that it’s an amino acid that is naturally produced in the body and available as a supplement.

It’s also involved in a lot of important bodily processes. The most notable one would be the urea cycle, which expels ammonia and other harmful compounds from your system.

It also increases vasodilation. Vasodilation is when blood vessels like arteries and veins widen. This results in increased blood flow, also known as lower blood pressure.

Outside of G Fuel, you can also find it in watermelons, pumpkins, cucumbers, and some vegetables.

Glucuronolactone

Glucuronolactone is a chemical that can either be found in the body or synthesized like taurine and citrulline. It also aids in detoxifying the body, so it’s useful for preventing liver disease when taken as a supplement.

N-Acetyl-L-Carnitine HCl

L-carnitine is an amino acid that’s essential to energy production. It has many types available, including Acetyl L-carnitine, D-carnitine, L-carnitine L-tartrate, and Propionyl-L-carnitine.

All of them generally help with metabolism with the exception of D-Carnitine, which is toxic to the body.

Velvet Bean Seed Extract

Velvet beans are a natural way of boosting dopamine. This makes it useful in products meant to help with fatigue, depression and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) since the physiological side of those problems is tied to dopamine.

If you’re unfamiliar with dopamine, it is a neurotransmitter that’s important in:

  • Sleep
  • Memory
  • Mood
  • Keeping calm

That’s why products containing velvet beans are sometimes seen as good alternatives to caffeine. So if something like G Fuel has both of those together, you can expect a huge surge in energy after drinking a serving.

Velvet beans are also said to be capable of giving you energy without making you crash. Though there aren’t enough studies that support this claim. But if it were true, it would explain how G Fuel Powder got its reputation of giving crashless boosts.

G Fuel Powder Focus Complex

The Focus Complex are the ingredients that are there to boost your cognitive abilities.

Tyrosine in G Fuel Powder

Tyrosine is an amino acid that improves alertness, attention, and focus. Its role in the body is to produce brain chemicals that help nerves communicate with each other. These brain chemicals can also help regulate mood.

You might already know this, but it’s commonly found in dietary supplements people buy for various reasons. Outside of that and G Fuel, it can be found in food such as cheese, poultry, and fish.

Tyrosine is also essential to producing various neurotransmitters. These include:

  • Dopamine – regulates reward and pleasure centers of the brain. Also aids memory and motor skills
  • Adrenaline – released during fight or flight response
  • Noradrenaline – released during fight or flight response
  • Thyroid hormones – responsible for regulating metabolism
  • Melanin – for skin pigment

Although it has many benefits, tyrosine has side effects that will show if you consume too much of it.

The possible side effects of tyrosine are:

  • Thyroid hormone levels getting too high
  • Could interfere with L-dopa absorption in the small intestine
  • Might interfere with Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOI) antidepressant medications

ATP in G Fuel Powder

Adenosine-5′-Triphosphate Disodium Salt (ATP) is the primary source of energy in cells. That’s why it’s believed that adding it to food supplements will increase the consumer’s energy. However, there is little evidence to back this up.

G Fuel Powder Antioxidant Complex

The Antioxidant Complex are the ingredients G Fuel uses to ease strain on your body. For context, antioxidants are molecules that inhibit oxidation reactions by fighting free radicals.

Free radicals are what you need to get oxidation reactions in your body. They react very quickly and easily with everything, so having too much of them might be a risk to your health. This has been linked to various diseases like cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.

Strictly speaking, your body already has its own defenses against these things. But antioxidants are also found in many foods and drinks like G Fuel, so it’s not hard to supplement that.

Antioxidants are also good for food production since they can increase shelf life.

In G Fuel, these are a long list of fruit extracts, though there are items in the miscellaneous ingredients section that also serve its function.

As you might have guessed, these are the preservatives (Citric Acid and Silicon Dioxide).

Citric Acid

Slices of Citrus Fruits
Citrus fruits, an organic source of citric acid

Citric acid is a substance that can serve many purposes and is found primarily in fruits. In G Fuel, it’s as much an antioxidant ingredient as much as it is a preservative.

As you know, citric acid is known for giving fruits like lemon their sour taste. It’s also that sour taste that makes it a good flavoring agent and preservative in both food and medicine.

In nature, citric acid can be found in:

  • Lemons
  • Limes
  • Oranges
  • Tangerines
  • Pomelo

And like many substances found in fruits, taking citric acid has a number of health benefits like:

  • Increased metabolism
  • Better nutrient absorption
  • Protection against kidney stones

Some people wonder if there are health risks to taking citric acid as a food supplement, but studies have been inconclusive. Otherwise, it’s considered safe for consumption.

Silicon Dioxide

Silicon Dioxide is a natural chemical that is a mix of silicon and oxygen. It’s abundant in nature; you can find it in many forms like quartz and sand.

It also exists in food that most of us regularly eat like:

  • Leafy green vegetables
  • Oats
  • Brown rice
  • Alfalfa

Silicon dioxide can also be found in the human body. However, no one really knows why or what it’s for yet.

Aside from being a good antioxidant, silicon dioxide is also a good anticaking agent when used as a food additive. Put simply, this means silicon dioxide is there to make sure the powder doesn’t clump together.

Although many are aware of it, it’s generally a safe food additive.

Final Thoughts

An overview of gaming energy drinks, G Fuel included.

G Fuel has anywhere from 140g to 150g of caffeine depending on which flavor you buy. It also has several substances that do things from boosting your body’s metabolism, to providing antioxidants for your body to clean your bloodstream with.

These include several types of synthesized amino acids to boost your metabolism with, and naturally occurring ingredients that can either supplement energy levels or serve as antioxidants.

In summary, it became one of the healthiest energy drinks you can find through a carefully concocted formula filled with amino acids to go with the caffeine.

As for my opinion, I think this claim is justified. G Fuel is a lot like coffee in terms of its caffeine content, and has the perk of making you less likely to crash.

I’d say that’s incredibly valuable for anyone who leads a busy life but doesn’t want to deal with the drawbacks most energy drinks and caffeinated products are associated with.

Only for adults though. With how much caffeine it has, I totally agree with the official website’s statement that people under 18 years of age shouldn’t be drinking G Fuel (no matter how tempting the flavors are).
