In the study, top footballers, climbers, swimmers and basketball, rugby, volleyball, tennis and hockey players took the equivalent of three cans of energy drink or an energy drink placebo before a sports competition.
Sporting performance was measured with the use of GPS devices which determined the distance and the speed at which it was covered in team sports. They also used dynamometers and potentiometers to measure muscle performance in other sports. How Many Cans Of Game Fuel Should I Drink?

Game Fuel’s Caffeine Content
Game Fuel has 90 mg of caffeine, not that high when compared to the recommended intake of caffeine which is 400 mg per day for healthy adults (I repeat healthy adults.)
One of the side effects that too much caffeine has is jittery or shaky hands and if you’re a gamer, shaky hands are your nightmare since it affects your gameplay. However, with Game Fuel’s caffeine content, you can reap the benefits of Game Fuel while preventing your hands from shaking.
It’s not recommended for you to consume caffeinated beverages like Game Fuel if you’re pregnant, have an irregular heartbeat, have trouble sleeping, or often feel anxious (caffeine, in general, may worsen symptoms of people who are prone to anxiety.)

Game Fuel has a total sugar of 23g, a ton of it comes from artificial sweeteners or added sugar like high-fructose corn syrup.
High-Fructose Corn Syrup
Also known as HFCS, high-fructose corn syrup is an artificial sugar made from corn syrup.
It’s been associated with health problems like metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, high triglyceride levels, and weight gain. These health issues can increase your risk of heart disease.
What makes HFCS worse is that it doesn’t add any nutrition value to your body since it produces empty calories – its only purpose is to make the energy drink taste better.

Supplements in Game Fuel
Supplements help enhance Game Fuel, different benefits may vary depending on what supplement Game Fuel contains. I’ll explain it further as you read on.
Often found in tea, l-theanine improves mental function. It’s also been said that l-theanine is used for anxiety and stress, but WebMD stated that no good scientific evidence has supported these claims yet.
Even if there isn’t any reliable information, pregnant and nursing women are advised not to consume l-theanine, so if you don’t want to take the risk it’s much better to avoid it. People with low blood pressure should also be aware that taking l-theanine might worsen their blood pressure.
The most commonly used species of ginseng, Panax ginseng is a common herb used for both medicinal and culinary purposes, and it’s extracted from the root of the ginseng plant.
Sadly, ginseng doesn’t enhance physical performance. But on the brighter side, ginseng may boost your brainpower – which is a lot more useful if you happen to be doing more mentally heavy tasks.
Keep in mind that ginseng is not a miracle drug, some claims are not backed with scientific research so be aware to take its supposed benefits with a grain of salt.

Yerba mate should be only taken occasionally since too much yerba mate may lead to side effects, not too dissimilar to caffeine-related side effects, and even cancer (although you would have to be drinking 1 to 2 liters of yerba mate daily for that to happen).
Vitamin A (Retinol)
Vitamin A is fat-soluble and it plays an important role in your body. It supports cell growth, immune function, fetal development, and eye health/vision.
Lack of vitamin A can put you at risk and make you experience symptoms such as:
- Dry skin
- Dry eyes
- Night blindness
- Delayed growth
900 mcg for men and 700 mcg for women is considered as the recommended daily allowance (RDA) for vitamin A. Exceeding this limit can be dangerous as it can lead to liver damage and nausea.
Vitamin B3 (Niacin)
Vitamin B3, or niacin, is a B-Vitamin that may help lower cholesterol, ease arthritis, and boost brain function.
Lack of vitamin B3 can lead to deficiency, which can be determined when you’re experiencing:
- Memory loss
- Skin problems

Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid)
Another B-Vitamin, Vtaimin B5 (Pantonthenic Acid) is vital for making blood cells and converting food into energy. Having a healthy digestive tract, skin, hair, and eyes is also one of the benefits you can get from this vitamin.
If you don’t consume enough vitamin B5 in your diet, you may experience symptoms such as:
- Impaired muscle coordination
- Gastrointestinal problems
The recommended intake for vitamin B5 also varies, but for most adults, 5mg is the limit.
Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine)
The last vitamin that Game Fuel contains is vitamin B6 or pyridoxine, it has several functions like creating red blood cells and neurotransmitters which can help the body.
Your body cannot produce vitamin B6 by itself, which is why you need to take it from food sources or supplements.

Energy drinks are a convenient substitute for coffee or tea, which a lot of us simply don’t have the time or energy to bother with every time the need for caffeine arises.
The general rule of thumb is to not exceed one can, two maximum even if it has zero sugar, as caffeine can be a dangerous substance to overdose on, and you’ll also develop a tolerance to it which means soon you’ll be needing more than your usual two cans to get that caffeine hit.
