Hype Energy Drink Review (Analysis)

Hype Energy has been a staple in the racing circuit, partly due to the fact that it is owned by ex-Formula One driver Bertrand Gachot and partly because the brand has a wide flavor range and performance-boosting properties.

With its 80mg of caffeine, vitamin content, and wide range of flavors, I was definitely excited to try Hype and see if it really does live up to its name.

Here’s my verdict: Hype delivers a solid energy boost and decent flavors, but I’m not sold on its high sugar and calorie content.

Caffeine In Hype Energy Drink

A serving of this product contains 80mg of caffeine. In comparison to other energy drinks, this is a moderate amount.

Caffeine is a stimulant that affects the nervous system and while it has wonderful benefits like the boost of energy and aiding in burning calories, it can cause negative side effects if excessively consumed.

Studies suggest that adults should not consume more than 400mg of caffeine per day. It is possible to overdose on caffeine if you drink too many energy drinks or consume foods with high caffeine content.

We all have different levels of caffeine tolerance, so if you’re an energy drink beginner, it’s good to start with moderate amounts like 50-100mg to determine if you’re able to handle it.

Numerous physical and mental problems can result from excessive caffeine consumption, including:

  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety
  • Shakiness
  • Restlessness
  • Lack of Concentration and Focus

Sugar Content in Hype Energy Drink

There are approximately 28 grams of sugar in each 250ml can of Hype energy drink.

Sugar-free variants of the Hype Energy drink are also available if you’re on a diet.

According to the American Heart Association (AHA), men should not consume more than 36 grams of added sugar per day. Women, however, ought not to consume more than 25 grams of added sugar per day.

So you can see why I consider Hype to have high sugar content and why you should keep to one can of Hype a day only. Because of this, Hype is not suitable for diabetics or those looking to shed some pounds.

How Many Calories Does Hype Energy Drink have?

Each can of Hype Energy contains 120 calories, which I think is reasonable and something you can easily burn off during workouts.

You won’t be impacted much by Hype Energy since women should consume approximately 2,000 calories daily, and men should consume around 2500 calories per day.

But the calorie content can be helpful for those who want to gain some muscle and regularly do heavy exercise regimens.

However, 120 calories are too much for those on diets. The good news though is that Hype offers zero-calorie and sugar-free options for those who would like to reduce their calorie intake as much as possible.

Citric Acid in Hype Energy Drink

Citric acid is known to be sourced from citrus fruits like limes and lemons, but you can also find significant amounts of the compound in Hype. Generally, this active ingredient is used in food additives or nutritional supplements as a cleaning agent.

In addition to its many health benefits, citric acid can also be found in many foods. A unique advantage of this supplement is that it allows the body to absorb more energy from food. This results in a more energized, productive state.

And of course, it also adds a little zing to Hype! I personally like the addition of citrus flavors in my energy drinks since I think it keeps the beverage fresh.

Flavors Of Hype Energy Drinks

There are eight flavors of Hype Energy Drinks. They are seven regular flavors and one Sugar-Free flavor.

You can choose from the following flavors:

  • MFP Maximum Energy
  • MFP Sugar-Free
  • Up Ice Berry Max
  • Enlite Extra Low Cal
  • Mohito Ultra Mint & Lime
  • Afterdark Limited Edition
  • Twisted Tropical Punch
  • Twisted Cherry Punch

My favorite flavor out of all these is the Up Ice Berry Max, which really distinguishes itself from the cookie-cutter berry-flavored drinks I’ve tasted in the past. It wasn’t that sweet considering its sugar content and the layered berry flavor has a slight kick of tartness to it that I like.

I also liked the Twisted Tropical Punch, which in contrast to the cool berry flavor, is very much a fun summer drink to quench your thirst. I could really taste the delightful passion fruit and mango, and the blend is very pleasing to the mouth and not off-putting at all.

Lastly, the sugar-free variant tastes a lot like Red Bull in its flavor and sweetness. It has a very smooth taste and none of the artificial sweetener aftertaste that comes with other brands.

It has 80mg of caffeine, which is sufficient for you to feel relaxed and energized throughout the day. As well as enhancing your mental focus, caffeine also improves your cognitive abilities.

A combination of Hype’s ingredients increases alertness and physical reflexes due to a substantial energy boost.

Is Hype Energy Drink Bad For You?

If you are healthy and maintain an active lifestyle while consuming an energy drink, you can’t go wrong with Hype!

The benefits of Hype Energy may be experienced if you consume it moderately.

This beverage contains a lot of sugar, even though it doesn’t contain much caffeine. If you consume an energy drink with high sugar content regularly, you will develop health problems.

The crash will probably set in once the effects wear off, and you’ll begin to feel sluggish and tired.

It is ok to consume Hype Energy occasionally, but it should not be consumed regularly. Depending on your preferences, you can choose a sugar-free version of Hype when needed.

Is Hype Energy Drink Good For You?

Hype Energy Drink has the potential to be beneficial if consumed in moderation.

Since it contains 80 mg of caffeine, you are unlikely to experience a crash even if you have a low tolerance.

The boost is also fairly smooth, so you won’t experience any undesirable side effects. Physically and mentally, you should feel better as a result.

It is ultimately beneficial to consume moderate quantities of Hype Energy. I recommend avoiding consuming Hype Energy regularly, as it isn’t the most nutritional drink around.

Combined with caffeine and other performance-enhancing ingredients, Hype Energy provides your body with an extra boost of energy when you need it. However, it would be best if you only used them when necessary.

Side Effects of Hype Energy

Conclusion

All in all, this energy drink earns a 7.5/10 rating for me. Hype is definitely effective as an energy drink with ingredients that improve your overall performance.

Taurine, sugar, and caffeine are the main components that make the drink effective. You get a significant boost when you combine these ingredients, and it delivers increased mental acuity and performance.

As Hype has moderate caffeine content, you are unlikely to experience many adverse side effects if you are not very sensitive to caffeine.

Its flavors are quite nice too and I like that they offer calorie-free and sugar-free versions to cater to a wide range of lifestyles.

Still, the original flavor contains a lot of sugar and calories, so do not consume more than one can a day of Hype.
