Is MAW Energy Vegan? (Explored)

MAW is an energy drink exclusively crafted for gamers to have the edge over their competition.

With its proprietary Energy and Focus blend, it claims to provide a sugar-free, no-crash energy boost that sharpens your focus and increases your reaction time.

It comes in an easy-to-carry tub with 60 servings’ worth of energy drink mix and is also quite budget-friendly.

That is all great and good, but the question that we are here for is this: Is MAW Energy vegan?

The short answer is that it doesn’t contain anything in it that is sourced from animals, so it can be considered vegan.

If you want a deeper dive and more details about this relatively new energy drink, then you’ve come to the perfect place because, in this article, I’ll be doing just that. So are you interested?

Let’s hop into it…

MAW Energy Ingredients

MAW Energy has the following ingredients in its Energy and Focus proprietary blend:

  • Natural Caffeine
  • L-Tyrosine
  • L-Theanine
  • Astaxanthin
  • Lycium Berry

It contains the following ingredients as well:

  • Sucralose
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin B6
  • Vitamin B12
  • Citric acid
  • Malic acid
  • Fruit and Vegetable juice (Color)
  • Natural flavor

*Note that some ingredients vary from flavor to flavor, but the main blend remains the same. The abovementioned ingredients are for the RIP Harambe flavor.

As you can see, MAW Energy cuts out all the “extra” ingredients and gives you only what they term as “simple energy.” This also helps them keep costs low, so it’s a win-win if you only need an energy boost and nothing more at a lower price.

These ingredients also seem to be mostly vegan, but more about that later.

Vitamins In MAW Energy

Vitamins are essential for you, but your body can’t make them themselves.

MAW Energy has three essential vitamins in it. Here’s a chart showing their benefits and advantages:

While most naturally-occurring sources of Vitamin B12 are non-vegan, added vitamin B12 in supplements and the like is artificially prepared.

It should also be noted that it is pretty easy for vegans to get Vitamin B12 deficiency, so they must get enough of it from sources like supplements.

Caffeine In MAW Energy

MAW Energy has 140 mg of natural caffeine per scoop.
A serving of MAW Energy has close to twice the amount of caffeine that is in a cup of coffee.

A single serving of MAW Energy contains around 140mg of natural caffeine.

The amount of caffeine in MAW Energy is above average for energy drinks but pretty standard for more gaming-focused energy drinks.

What’s more, the manufacturer suggests that you can add more than one scoop to your serving to make your drink as intense as you like, up to three scoops.

Three scoops of MAW would amount to 420 milligrams of caffeine per serving, which is out of the question. Besides, most people would never feel the need to consume that much caffeine.

The FDA recommends that you don’t consume more than 400mg of caffeine in a day, and drinking more than that amount will cause you to experience the following side effects:

  • Headaches
  • Insomnia
  • Diarrhea
  • Jitters
  • Anxiety
  • Abnormal heartbeat
  • Dizziness

Therefore, drinking too much caffeine will only negatively impact your gaming performance. You don’t want to deal with these things when grinding for materials and raiding bosses in an RPG or when you’re out for blood in a multiplayer shooter.

Also, many of us take caffeine from other sources throughout the day, so I would suggest that you drink no more than two scoops of MAW Energy per day.

Is natural caffeine vegan?

Natural sources of caffeine include fruits and leaves of Coffee plants, Cacao plants, and Guarana plants. Since these sources are all plants and fruits, therefore natural caffeine is vegan.

Calories In MAW Energy

weight loss
MAW Energy is a low-calorie energy drink.

MAW Energy has only 5 calories per scoop or serving.

This incredibly low number of calories makes MAW great for all lifestyles ranging from fit and active lifestyles to sedentary lifestyles. But it is perfect for hardcore gamers, as they spend a lot of time sitting in one place and don’t want to deal with extra calories piling up.

You see, the FDA recommends that an average healthy human needs around 2000 calories in a day to function properly.

The actual number may differ from person to person. Still, the fact stands that consuming more calories than you need is only good if you can burn those calories off, like when you work out or do some other physically intensive activity.

And if you keep operating without much moving around, the extra calories can get stored as fats, which will eventually cause a significant gain in weight and might lead to obesity.

Being obese can make life incredibly difficult, but by virtue of not having any significant number of calories, MAW makes it that much easier to stay fit.

Sugar In MAW Energy

MAW Energy doesn’t have any sugar in it.

Being sugar-free of MAW Energy is great because the energy boost gained from MAW wouldn’t be followed by a crash afterward, so that when its effects run out, you can just keep going about your day (or night, if you’re doing a nightly gaming session) as usual.

Also, the amounts of sugar used in some energy drinks are unhealthy and not recommended for daily consumption. And as a reference, the AHA suggests that men consume only 36g of sugar and 25g for women per day.

And excessive consumption of sugar can put your health at risk for:

  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Cognitive Problems
  • Colon Cancer
  • Diabetes
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Kidney Disease
  • Liver Disease
  • Obesity
  • Pancreatic Cancer
  • Retina Damage
  • Muscle and Nerve Damage

Therefore, MAW Energy has the edge over its competition because it is sugar-free and is, thus, a much safer option for prolonged usage.

Is sugar really that good?

Artificial Sweetener In MAW Energy

MAW Energy uses the artificial sweetener Sucralose instead of sugar in its formula

Sold under the name Splenda in the US, Sucralose is several hundred times sweeter than sugar and safe for consumption since the FDA approves it.

The great thing about having Sucralose in it instead of sugar is that it makes MAW Energy safe for diabetic people, which is a big plus point for me. Keep note that Sucralose doesn’t add any calories to your diet, which is why the almost zero calories in MAW Energy.

Artificial sweeteners like Sucralose are generally prepared artificially and are free of animal proteins, so it is safe to consider them vegan.

Is MAW Energy Vegan?

Ethical vegans also avoid foods that are tested on animals or whose production involves animal cruelty.

To answer this question definitely, I’ll be making a chart of the remaining main ingredients in MAW Energy as to whether they’re vegan or not.

These ingredients are amino acids found in the human body as well, and they aren’t inherently vegan or non-vegan. While they can be extracted from animals, the kind used in supplements is lab-prepared and is vegan-friendly.

Anyways, after taking a look at all of the ingredients in MAW Energy, we can safely conclude that MAW is indeed vegan-friendly and is free of any animal-based ingredients.

Is MAW Energy a pre-workout?

Although MAW Energy has a relatively high amount of caffeine, it doesn’t really have what it takes to be a pre-workout. I mean, it isn’t even marketed to be a pre-workout.

One reason is that most pre-workouts have a higher caffeine level than MAW Energy, but you can counter that by just adding more scoops to your serving. The other reason is the nature of the caffeine in it.

The thing about natural caffeine is that it doesn’t show its effects as hastily as lab-made caffeine does. This means that instead of an almost instant rush of energy, you’ll get a slow, prolonged, and more balanced boost. Also, because the natural caffeine gets absorbed slower, its effects last longer, but the rush is evenly spread out over this period, while with pre-workouts, you get a big rush of energy to power through your workouts.

MAW Energy has been formulated for prolonged focus and increased reaction times to benefit gamers who do a lot of gaming, so giving a substantial physical boost doesn’t make sense.

Therefore, as far as pre-workouts go, MAW Energy simply isn’t supposed to be one. If you want to know my views on the best pre-workouts, check out this article of mine.

MAW Energy’s Flavors

MAW Energy comes in the following interestingly named flavors:

  • MAW Energy RIP Harambe (Mango, Guava, Tangerine, and Strawberry mix)
  • MAW Energy Blue Buzz (Blue Raspberry)
  • MAW Energy Mythic Melon (Watermelon flavored…probably)
  • MAW Energy Jungle Berry (Fruit punch)
  • MAW Energy Green Growl (Cherry lemonade esque)

While all of these flavors are pretty well-received by customers, it seems that the Mythic Melon and RIP Harambe flavors are the most popular of the bunch.

And it makes sense that the fans love Mythic Melon because it was actually chosen and named by the fans themselves.

The best thing about MAW Energy, tastewise, is that it mixes really well and doesn’t have a chalky aftertaste that G Fuel or other such energy drinks have.

MAW Energy Sour Powder

Maw powder

The company also separately sells a companion Sour Powder along with their energy drinks, which you can add to your MAW Energy to give it that extra bit of sourness that some people love. And it only comes at a fraction of the price of the drink itself, which is great.

MAW Energy’s Price

MAW Energy just so happens to be affordable on top of being delicious. You can buy a tub of MAW Energy that makes 60 servings at $34.95 from their official website.

The company claims that their drink is so affordable that one tub is worth $150 worth of Red Bull, which seems to be true. You also get a big discount if you get a monthly subscription.

If that is not sufficient, they offer you a tub for free if you go to their website. You’ll only have to pay $6.99 for shipping!

I highly suggest that you check out this energy drink mix because it seems quite promising.

Alternatives To MAW Energy

Here is a list of energy drinks that you can use as alternatives to MAW Energy:

Conclusion

All in all, MAW Energy is a great-tasting gaming energy drink that has earned my approval. It has a nice amount of caffeine, no sugar, minimal calories, no chalky aftertaste, and it also provides you the freedom to customize it to your liking.

What’s more, it is completely free of any animal-based ingredients and is therefore vegan!

Although it may not have some of the ingredients that other premium energy drinks have, its affordability makes up for that.

So go get a tub of MAW Energy and dominate your competition.
