Red Bull Yellow Edition Caffeine and Ingredients (Deep Dive)

If you do not like the original Red Bull and are looking for a beverage that is not overly sweet, Red Bull Yellow Edition might be worth considering. Even though there’s no significant difference in the ingredients of both variants, Yellow Edition is still the best in terms of the taste and smell of all variants.

Containing probably the same amount of caffeine as a cup of home-brewed coffee, this flavor is equally suitable for athletes, students, and professionals.

Red Bull Yellow Edition: Review

Caffeine Content of Red Bull Yellow

Like other variants, Yellow Edition also comes in two sizes; 8.4 fl. oz. and 12 fl. oz. The caffeine levels of both are 80 mg/8.4 fl. oz and 114/12 fl. oz respectively. So, it’s convenient to choose the size according to your caffeine tolerance.

Interestingly, the caffeine level in both the serving sizes is below what health authorities regulate. As per FDA recommendations, you should keep your caffeine intake below 400 mg from all sources.

It’ll take 15 to 20 minutes for this drink to kick in, and the effects of caffeine will last for 3 to 5 hours.

If you’re not used to taking energy drinks, it’ll take you some time to build caffeine tolerance. Therefore, I won’t recommend going beyond one can. Or, you might end up facing the following issues:

  • Hypertension
  • Headache
  • Anxiety
  • Dependence
  • Foggy brain
  • High tolerance

Caffeine is present in coffee and green tea, therefore, it’s better to skip coffee when taking energy beverages containing a handsome amount of caffeine.

Taurine Levels of Yellow Edition

There’s an unknown amount of taurine in the Red Bull Yellow Edition. However, the brand states on the website that the human body has 70% more taurine than one 8.4 fl. oz serving of this tropical drink.

Opposite to caffeine, taurine is considered to be a sedative and leaves very calming effects on you. When you take a combination of a higher dose of taurine and a lower dose of caffeine, research shows that it promotes sleep, that’s interesting!

If you feel sleepy after getting an energy drink, taurine might be the reason

Taurine benefits include:

  • Boost exercise stamina
  • Helps manage high blood pressure
  • Enhance eye health

It is important to know how much taurine you are consuming since there is a daily intake limit. A study shows that taurine is effective when taken between 1 and 3 grams. The brands should label the amounts of all active ingredients, so, you know that you’re not over-consuming anything.

As you can see, this drink doesn’t only contain nootropics but also has the right combination of nutrients that enhance your mood and provide you with clean energy.

Red Bull Yellow Edition: Sugar and Carbs

The sugar levels of the Yellow Edition of Red Bull are no different from other flavors. Each 12 fl. oz serving contains 38 g of sugar and 41 g of carbs, making it unsuitable for diabetics and those with sugar sensitivity.

As per AHA guidelines, men shouldn’t take more than 36 g of sugar, while the dose for women is 24 g. The amount of sugar in 8.4 fl. oz serving is 27 g, which is still higher for women.

Energy beverages might not be the only source you consume sugar from. Therefore, you should keep a check on your daily sugar intake. The reason for adding sugar to drinks is to provide you with energy. But, this energy won’t stay long and will cause energy drain eventually.

Here are the possible side effects of too much sugar:

  • Weight gain
  • Sugar crash
  • Acne
  • Risk of getting type 2 diabetes

Electrolytes in Red Bull Yellow Edition

preservative
Sodium is the only electrolyte in the Yellow Edition of Red Bull

Sodium (200 mg/12 fl. oz) is the only electrolyte in Yellow Edition. If you’re an athlete, you might know that sodium is a common mineral in pre-workout beverages.

There are many benefits of sodium including maintaining fluids. Furthermore, it helps you recover from high-intensity workouts. In other energy drinks, you’ll find two additional electrolytes; potassium and magnesium.

The dose of sodium in the tropical variant of Red Bull is adequate. As per Harvard, you need to consume at least 500 mg of this mineral to relax muscles and maintain fluid balance.

Keep in mind that taking too much sodium can increase your blood pressure. So, it’s important to not go beyond 2.3 g of sodium

Is Red Bull Yellow Edition a High-calorie Drink?

There’s no denying that Yellow Edition, like other variants of Red Bull, is also a high-calorie beverage. A 12 fl. oz serving containing 160 calories might contribute a large portion to your daily calorie requirement.

You need to keep your calorie intake between 2000 to 2500 to stay healthy. Those following a low-calorie diet may not find this beverage a valid option.

Well, there are 110 calories in 8.4 fl. oz drink, which is lower than what you get in 12 fl. oz serving. In case you’re looking for drinks with zero calories, you should go for Red Bull zero.

How Many Cans of Red Bull Yellow Edition Per Day?

I don’t take more than one serving because I limit my caffeine intake to less than 100 mg. You can also choose the serving size based on your caffeine tolerance. Keep in mind that the sugar content in a single can is already more than what AHA recommends.

Additionally, the amount of taurine and sodium will also be doubled. Keep in mind taurine is present in an unknown amount. So, taking more than one serving might lead to health problems.

For avid energy drink consumers, taking more than two cans isn’t suitable. In case you face anxiety or you feel a foggy brain with two servings, you should either go back to one serving or discontinue using it.

Can You Take Red Bull Yellow Edition As A Pre-workout?

Red Bull Yellow Edition as a Pre-workout

Of course, you can take the Yellow Edition as a pre-workout. In fact, it would work great when taken prior to any physical and mental activity. The dose of caffeine is precisely what you need to gain focus during long gym sessions.

Sweating means losing water and salt. Therefore, sodium is an electrolyte that will help you recover and keep you hydrated.

The only downside to this drink is that it contains too much sugar and large doses of carbs. So, you may experience a sugar crash after one hour of consumption.

Overall, this edition is great as a pre-workout and for brain-intensive work.

Where Should You Buy Red Bull Yellow Edition?

Best Place to Buy Red Bull Yellow Edition

If you don’t find this variant in physical stores, you could go for online purchase options. In my perspective, buying these drinks online is the most time-saving option.

Amazon is the place where you can find the Yellow Edition of Red Bull at the best cost deals. Especially, when you buy a case the price breaks down to half. Additionally, you can get them delivered to your home without any hassles.

Another option for an online purchase is Walmart, however, you won’t see exciting deals like Amazon. You can go with whatever works best for you.

Conclusion

The Yellow Edition is a great improvement from the original Red Bull. Unlike other flavors of Red Bull, this tropical drink is exactly what the brand represents.

You can either drink it straight out of the can or mix it with any beverage of your choice. If you want to replace it with coffee, let me tell you that it’ll provide more endurance and an energy boost.

The best part is that those following a gluten-free diet can consume this as it doesn’t contain wheat or other grains containing gluten.

I’d rate this tropical drink 8 out of 10!
