How Much Energy is in Reign?

A can of Reign Energy Drink has a calorie count that ranges from 0 to 10 depending on the flavors, which is pretty low compared to other energy drinks.

In comparison, a 16 fl.oz can of Monster has 210 calories and there is only 80 calories in an 8.4 fl.oz of Red Bull.

Generally, the recommended calorie intake per day that you should follow is:

  • 2000 calories per day for women
  • 2500 calories per day for men

Since Reign does not contain much calories, it is an ideal drink if you’re craving for energy drink but trying to maintain a low-calorie diet.

It won’t be helpful at all in terms of giving you energy for your workout session. So, always stick to a proper meal before hitting the gym.

How Much Caffeine is in Reign?

A 16 fl.oz can of Reign Energy Drink contains 300 mg caffeine sourced from fresh tea leaves and coffee beans. This amount of caffeine puts Reign as one of the strongest energy drinks available alongside Bang.

The extra caffeine can certainly give you a good boost that’ll last for a couple of hours. It is an effective energy booster that is also designed to help you achieve prolonged mental focus.

The recommended caffeine intake per day as suggested by the FDA is 400mg. That being said, you’ll have to strictly limit your intake of Reign to a single can per day to avoid the adverse effects of caffeine.

Some of the symptoms associated with caffeine includes:

  • insomnia
  • diarrhea
  • palpitations
  • headache
  • fever
  • irritability

However, you may not feel these symptoms if you have high caffeine tolerance. Even so, I would suggest for you to drink Reign or any caffeinated beverages in moderation.

Always remember to watch your caffeine intake for the rest of the day if you’ve had a can of Reign Energy as you don’t want to be overdose with caffeine.

How Much Sugar is in Reign?

Reign does not contain any sugar at all so you don’t have to worry about sugar crash.

The AHA recommends the following daily sugar intake:

  • 36 g for men which is equal to 9 teaspoons
  • 25 g for women which is equal to 6 teaspoons

Nevertheless, Reign does contain artificial sweeteners, namely Sucralose and Acesulfame Potassium.

They help in adding sweetness to Reign Energy drink but are zero calories sweeteners. No worries on the calories per say.

You may be concerned about any long-term side effects of consuming beverages with artificial sweeteners. The good news is FDA has approved these sweeteners for general usage.

Other Ingredients

There are few other notable ingredients found in Reign, which are:

CoQ10

The amount of CoQ10 present in Reign is unknown, so it is hard to tell if this ingredient gives you any significant benefit.

CoQ10 (Coenzyme 10) is found in many foods and beverages. It is a nutrient that naturally occurs in the body that also acts as an antioxidant to protect cells from damage whilst improving the body’s metabolism.

There is no prescribed dose for CoQ10 but there were studies that suggest an intake of 50mg to 1200mg per day in healthy intervals.

B-Vitamins

B-Vitamins are the building blocks of a healthy body and can directly impact brain function, energy levels, and metabolism.

For your reference, I’ve created this table to show the B-Vitamins found in Reign.

B-VitaminsPurposeAmount (16 fl.oz)
Vitamin B12Important for brain function and synthesis of red blood cells6.25µg
Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine)Turn food into energy to help create neurotransmitters2.0mg
Vitamin B3 (Niacin)Boosts brain functions, lowers cholesterol, eases arthritis21.6mg

BCAAs in Reign

A can of 16fl.oz Reign contains 1000mg BCAAs which are leucine, isoleucine, and valine.

These essential amino acids can be obtained by taking supplements or having it as an ingredients in food and beverages.

The amount of BCAAs your body needs depends on your needs and goals. Based on the World Health Organization report, a healthy adult should consume 15mg of BCAAs (34 mg/kg) per pound of the body each day.

However, if you’re someone who likes the thrill of heavy training, you’re going to need a heavier dose of BCAAs.

Reign Energy Drinks Side Effects

A 16 fl.oz can of Reign Energy contains a high level of caffeine.

Its 300mg caffeine can give you a nagging headache and palpitation, if you happen to be caffeine sensitive.

Note that the caffeine content in Reign is barely below the 400mg daily caffeine intake limit set by FDA.

Some of the side effects of overconsumption includes:

  • rapid heartbeat
  • headaches
  • irritability
  • confusion
  • heartburn
  • nausea and vomiting
  • jitters
  • increased urination
  • difficulty sleeping

If you have a high caffeine tolerance level, probably you won’t feel anything despite going overboard. But still, I suggest limiting your intake of energy drinks and other caffeinated beverages to avoid any of the side effects that can lead to serious health issues.

Energy drinks contain high levels of caffeine but it is not that hazardous unless mixed with alcohol.

Caffeine is a stimulant that naturally occurs in food. These are some of the possible health benefits brought by caffeine though still require more research:

  • weight loss
  • alertness
  • improved sports performance
  • better cognition

My advice is to drink Reign slowly and stick with only one can a day. Caffeine is not that bad at all, if you drink in moderation.

Is Reign Better Than Monster?

It seems like Reign is a better energy drink than Monster, mostly due to lesser calories and sugar-free.

However, we can’t really say that both energy drinks are healthy. Reign has high caffeine content and Monster contains too much sugar in a can.

Monster do have high sugar content which is a bad news for someone with blood sugar and insulin level issues. With Monster, you’re likely to suffer from a “sugar crash”, which you won’t experience from consuming Reign.

Looks like Reign contains richer ingredients compared to Monster such as CoQ10, amino acids, electrolytes, and B-Vitamins.

So yes, in my opinion, Reign is slightly better than Monster Energy.

Do Reign energy drinks work?

Many athletes have positive experiences consuming Reign, and the product does deliver on its claims. Reign’s high level of caffeine means you won’t have to worry about falling asleep for at least a few hours.

Not to mention, if you exercise often or are trying to cut down on sugar, Reign might be a great choice to help you stick to your calorie and carbohydrate goals. Try it for yourself to see whether it lives up to the hype since no number of second-hand reports can replace first-hand experience.

Is Reign Energy Drink Bad for You?

I think Reign Energy is not bad at all as long as you drink it in moderation.

All in all, I can say that Reign is an effective energy booster that promises to give you a pre- and post-workout boost.

Nonetheless, it may not be for everyone due to the high level of caffeine. Plus, Reign is the kind of energy drink that you shouldn’t down in one go, especially when you’re new to caffeinated drinks or if you happen to be caffeine sensitive.

Be rest assured there’s nothing in Reign that could cause a huge alarm to your health as long as you drink responsibly.

Who Is Reign Energy For?

Reign is advertised as a pre- and post-workout drink that claims to refuel and refresh the body.

The high caffeine content in Reign is designed for people with an active lifestyle as it gives a boost for sustained energy release.

I believe Reign Energy is suitable for people engaged in extreme workouts such as bodybuilding and weight-lifting.

The high caffeine in Reign may help gain better focus, improve pain tolerance caused by exercise, burn fats, and improve exercise performance.

Where to Buy Reign Energy Drinks

I bought my supply of Reign through the GNC website and the cost was around $29.00 to $30.00 per case, excluding shipping. I highly recommend checking the shipping charges before hitting the “Checkout” button.

I have checked other places that sell Reign Energy and here’s a list for your convenience:

Is Reign healthier than Red Bull?

Weighing in at around half the sugar content of Red Bull, Reign is the somewhat better choice for your health. Reign may be good for you in certain ways, but I wouldn’t put it on par with something like a glass of water

Caffeine-laced energy drinks are popular because they provide a fast boost in the mood while the negative effects on health are often overlooked. Furthermore, regular use may reduce the tolerance for caffeine and eventually cause addiction, so be mindful not to take it every day.

Final Thoughts

If you’re someone who loves extreme activities and a long workout session, Reign is the perfect drink for you. The 300mg caffeine content can surely give you the boost that you need for the entire workout session.

I am not saying that it is a healthy drink, but I can assure you that it is an effective energy booster.

Like any other brands of energy drinks, Reign has its own pros and cons which you need to consider before deciding to drink one. It is a fairly safe drink as long as you stick to the recommended caffeine intake per day.
