Extra Joss Nutrition Facts (Comprehensive)

Ever wonder why Extra Joss is such a popular energy drink brand in Southeast Asia?

If you’re an avid tourist (like me) or a true-blue local around these parts, for sure you’ve come to know about Extra Joss and its bright yellow packet.

But that’s not all that makes the brand stand out. It contains several B-Vitamins, Ginseng Extract, and Royal Jelly. Its nutrition facts are pretty moderate and not as extreme as you would see in other competitor brands. Each 4.5-gram sachet comes with 50mg of caffeine, no sugar, and no calories.

There is more to the drink than meets the eye. Read on as I get into the lesser-known details of Extra Joss and whether or not they’re beneficial for you.

Let’s dive in!

Why are Nutrition Facts Important?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) makes it necessary for food and beverage manufacturers to include the nutrition facts label on their products.

This label provides insight into what exactly goes in the product and helps keep people on a vegan and gluten diet avoid consumables that do not fit into their lifestyle.

It can also be beneficial for people looking to keep their weight in check because it makes it easier to take note of their daily calorie intake.

How Much Sugar Does Extra Joss Have?

Extra Joss is completely sugar-free, which means the drink is suitable for a wide variety of lifestyles and diets.

The lack of sugar makes it ideal for people with diabetes who cannot drink energy drinks due to their large sugar content.

What are the Artificial Sweeteners in Extra Joss?

Artificial sweeteners have steadily gained popularity and energy drink manufacturers, in particular, are using these in place of sugar.

Extra Joss uses Acesulfame Pottasium and Aspartame as its primary sweeteners. Both sweeteners are 200 times sweeter than regular sugar.

They are low-calorie and provide a suitable substitute for regular sugar. While artificial sweeteners are generally regarded as safe, there have been questions raised on their health effects.

However, there have been no concrete evidence for a clear link between artificial sweeteners and negative side effects, so I’d still recommend them as a healthier alternative than regular sugar. But just to be safe, keep your intake to a minimum.

Calorie Cotent in Extra Joss

Extra Joss is also free of any calories.

If you are looking for a quick refresher that can give you a notable boost for a brief amount of time, Extra Joss is a great option.

You can have it if you are on a diet or actively exercising to lose weight, it won’t make a difference other than hydrating you and giving a kick of energy.

Caffeine Content in Extra Joss

Coffee beans

Extra Joss contains only 50mg of caffeine each sachet.

While this may seem low, the beverage still gives a decent energy boost. In fact, if you’re caffeine-sensitive or looking to minimize your caffeine intake, Extra Joss is pretty ideal.

The low caffeine content also means that you won’t come anywhere close to the 400mg daily caffeine limit set by the FDA. You can easily have up to four sachets a day, but I wouldn’t really recommend consuming more than two.

Anyway, I do like that Extra Joss’ caffeine content is just the right amount to get me going but it doesn’t really increase the risk of negative side effects.

Side Effects of Too Much Caffeine

Since it is a powdered formula, experimenting with Extra Joss and adding more than one sachet to a drink to make it more potent can be a common change most consumers may make.

This has its set of risks, if you overdo it and exceed the 400mg limit of caffeine per day set by experts, you may suffer from the following side effects.

  • Restlessness and shakiness
  • Insomnia
  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Rapid or abnormal heart rhythm
  • Dehydration
  • Anxiety

Final Thoughts

In my opinion, Extra Joss has a considerably low nutritional content when compared to other energy drinks. Although its ingredients like Ginseng and Honey do have reported health benefits and the drink contains various B-Vitamins.

The drink’s strength lies in its zero-calorie and zero-sugar formula that can cater to various diets. Its 50mg of caffeine allows for more freedom in how much you have each day. However, it is important you keep track of how much youre intaking as it can be easy to overdo and exceed the daily maximum limit.

Again, my recommendation is you keep to one sachet per day, two if you have a high caffeine tolerance. So if you see Extra Joss during your next grocery trip, rest assured you can safely give it a try!
